With the state championships for soccer, baseball, girls’ tennis and track completed, boys’ golf is the final spring sport to hold its state event.
The Classes A, B, C and D two-day tournaments will begin Tuesday at four different locations.
Here’s a quick look at some of the top players who will be competing on the state level.
Class A
Christopher Atkinson, senior, Gretna: Atkinson, an Omaha pledge, shot a 67 at the A-1 district at Meadowlark Hills.
Colton Stock, senior, Gretna: Atkinson’s teammate Stock carded a 68 at districts.
Charlie Hoiberg, senior, Lincoln Pius X: Fresh off helping lead the Thunderbolts’ basketball team to the Class A state tournament, Hoiberg had success on the links. He shot a 68 at Holmes Golf Course in the A-3 district meet.
Caden Peppmuller, senior, Lincoln Northeast: Peppmuller shot a 69, one shot behind Hoiberg, at the A-3 district meet.
Jason Kolbas, senior, Lincoln Pius X: Kolbas, an Iowa Western recruit, finished with a 69 at the A-3 district meet and was the third player to card a sub-70 at Holmes Golf Course.
Brock Kuhlman, senior, Columbus: Kuhlman shot a 71 at the A-2 district meet at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln.
Luke Strako, junior, Creighton Prep: Strako shot a 74 at the A-4 district meet at Riverside Golf Club in Grand Island.
Jacob Boor, senior, Creighton Prep: Boor tied his teammate, Strako, with a 74 at the district meet.
Class B
Ben Hastreiter, senior, Elkhorn: At the B-1 district meet at Table Creek Golf course in Nebraska City, Hastreiter shot a 72 to claim the district championship.
Luke Gutschewski, senior, Mount Michael Benedictine: Gutschewski, an Iowa State golf commit, also shot a 72 at Table Creek to lead his team. He was the 2019 Class B champion as a sophomore and also won the 2019 Nebraska Junior Match Play and the 2020 Nebraska Junior.
Ryan Seevers, sophomore, York: The top Duke golfer is Seevers, a young and talented player who shot a 74 at his district meet at the York Country Club.
Emmanuel Jensen, freshman, York: Jensen is another young player doing well for head coach Dan Malleck’s team. He also shot a 74 like his teammate Seevers at the B-3 district meet.
Trenton Baehr, sophomore, Beatrice: Not one senior had a top-four individual score at the B-3 district meet at York. Baehr placed third with a 74.
Jakeb Scherer, senior, Gothenburg: Scherer was the B-4 district champ with a score of 73 at Hillside Golf Course in Sidney.
Payton Craw, senior, McCook: Craw was the Bison’s top golfer at the B-4 district meet with a 73.
Class C
Alex Schademann, sophomore, Fillmore Central: Not only is Schademann a state-medaling wrestler, he can golf, too. His 72 at Crooked Creek Golf Club was good enough for the C-1 district meet championship.
Boston Pentico, senior, Wahoo Bishop Neumann: Pentico fired a 73 at Crooked Creek in Lincoln, which gave him a runner-up finish behind Schademann.
Brady Davis, junior, Fremont Archbishop Bergan: Davis’ 70 at the C-2 district meet at Oakland Golf Club was tops in the field, which meant a district title.
Nick Fleming, freshman, Columbus Scotus: Not far behind Davis was Fleming, who shot a 72 for runner-up at the C-2 district.
Carson Thomsen, junior, Oakland-Craig: Thomsen carded a 72 at his home course during districts to help guide his team to state.
Riley Kuehn, senior, Hartington Cedar Catholic: The top score at the C-3 district meet was carded by Kuehn with a 72 at Fair Play Golf Course in Norfolk.
Austin Thyne, junior, Mitchell: Thyne shot the top score at the C-5 district meet at Court House and Jail Rock Golf Course in Bridgeport with a 76.
Ethan Smith, junior, Doniphan-Trumbull: The lone sub-70 score of the C-4 district meet at Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island belonged to Smith with a 68.
Class D
Levi Lennemann, senior, Franklin: Franklin qualified its team to state, and a big part of that was Lennemann shooting an 81 to become D-1 district champ at Indianhead.
Jack Lubischer, senior, Humphrey St. Francis: The only sub-80 score of the D-2 district meet at Steepleview Golf Course in Humphrey was Lubischer’s 78.
Braxton Brockhaus, senior, Creighton: Brockhaus won the D-3 district meet by nine shots when he scored a 75 at Tatanka Golf Club in Niobrara.
Teegan Sonneman, junior, North Platte St. Pat’s: The Irish qualified for state as a team by winning the D-4 district meet, and three of its golfers finished in the top seven individually. The team was led by Sonneman, who scored a 75 at Hi-Line Country Club in Bertrand.
Connor Hagenauer, junior, North Platte St. Pat’s: Hagenauer shot a 76 to place runner-up at the D-4 district meet, right behind his teammate Sonneman.
Braden Fleischman, freshman, Overton: First-year varsity golfer Fleischman is headed to state after shooting a 79 at the D-4 district meet.
Brendon Walker, senior, Mullen: Walker won the D-5 district meet by eight strokes when he carded a 74 at Heritage Hills in McCook.
