June has been a good month for Creighton Prep running back CharMar “Marty” Brown. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound senior-to-be received his first two Group of Five scholarship offers and three FCS offers after his performance at Lindenwood’s Mega Camp in suburban St. Louis.
“Most of the coaches that I talked with before that camp wanted me to go to their camp but they were all at Lindenwood,” Brown said. “I didn’t have to waste the time or money going to all of the other camps.”
Miami (OH), Ball State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Lindenwood and North Dakota offered Brown since the camp June 3. Along with his impressive physique and ability on the football field, a handheld 4.51 40-yard dash and 10-feet 2-inch broad jump were two key measurables at Lindenwood.
Brown will camp at Iowa Thursday and North Dakota State Saturday in hopes to turn a few more heads from schools that might be in need of a running back in the 2023 class.
What’s next for Brown is scheduling visits to schools in July. A commitment is likely months away.
“I plan on visiting Miami (OH) in July depending on my schedule and how that looks,” he said. “I will go to UNI sometime in July for sure. I don’t plan on committing anywhere until after the season.”
A late bloomer in recruiting circles, Brown rushed for 1,067 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. In 2022 he will likely play outside linebacker to go with his running back duties.
“I want to play way faster this year. I am playing both sides of the ball and want to show college coaches I can run,” he said. “I’m doing more explosive workouts right now. My second gear is something I’ve been working on. My goal is to beat the Prep single-season rushing record of 2,085 yards (Jeff Wellwood, 1997).
