Lincoln Pius X 2021 graduate Alexis Markowski was named Nebraska’s girls Gatorade Player of the Year.
Markowski, a Nebraska women’s basketball commit, helped lead the Thunderbolts to the Class A state championship while going undefeated at 25-0 this past season.
Markowski was a key piece to a Pius X program that went 51-1 with two state championships in the past two seasons.
According to MaxPreps.com, Markowski, a 6-foot-3 center, averaged 23 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks per game. Despite constant double and triple teams, she scored 30 or more points in four games, with a season-high and school-record 42 coming in a win over Fremont on Jan. 2.
Markowski was also the best rebounder in the state, racking up 16 double-doubles. She hauled in 20 or more boards in four games last season.
Markowski’s play got stronger the further Pius X went in the postseason. In the Class A state semifinal against Omaha Central, she scored 30 points with a season-high 27 rebounds and three blocks to help the Bolts win 47-38. One day later in the state championship game against Fremont, Markowski recorded a 27-point, 19-rebound, three-block outing.
