Papillion-LaVista, Wayne Put Undefeated Seasons on the Line at NSAA State Tournament


Class A power Papillion-LaVista and Class C stalwart Wayne each bring an undefeated record into the 2018 NSAA Girls Softball State Championships in Hastings starting today.

Because of weather issues and field conditions, the start times for many game in the brackets has been pushed back. Please be sure to double-check the start times of games but checking out the updated brackets on the NSAA site by clicking here. Also, be sure to follow the nebpreps social media accounts for updates as they happen from Hastings.

Here is a quick preview of each of the three classes.

Class A

First-round games are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. today.  Top-seeded Papillion-LaVista rolls into the state tournament at 31-0 as has not even been involved in a one-run game this season. In fact, only twice this year did a team finishing with two runs of the Monarchs. Sophomore pitcher Jordyn Bahl has 21 wins and 0.782 ERA on the year for Papillion-LaVista while sophomore catcher Brooke Dumont is hitting .622 and senior shortstop Madeline Vejvoda leads the team with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs.

Class B

Top-seeded Elkhorn rolls into Hastings with a mark of 26-6 but is coming off consecutive losses to second-seeded Skutt Catholic in district play. Junior Sydney Nuismer leads the Antlers on the mound with a 2.46 ERA and 16 wins on the season while also delivering .395 batting average with four home runs and 29 RBIs at the dish. Skutt Catholic – at 26-7 – has won three of four games this year against Elkhorn.

Top-seeded and 31-0 Wayne has been absolutely dominant this fall. Behind junior pitcher Victoria Kniesche, who committed to South Dakota State last night, the Blue Devils have shut out 22 of 31 opponents this season. On the year, Wayne has outscored its opponents 320-20, including 106-0 in its last eight games.
