Lincoln Pius X, Duschesne Academy Take State Tennis Team Championships

Lincoln Pius X won the Class A girls state tennis tournament while Omaha Duchesne Academy won B this past weekend.

Here are the state champions, as well as the top-5 team scores from both tournaments.

Class A
No. 1 singles: Pius X senior Clare Plachy won her finals match against Omaha Marian sophomore Elsa Jurrens, 6-2, 6-0.

No. 2 singles: Pius X sophomore Cecilia Ulrich took down Millard North junior Riya Kannapareddy 6-2, 6-3 in the championship match.

No. 1 doubles: The duo of Lincoln Southeast senior Caroline Miller and junior Allyson Keitges beat Lincoln East senior Elly Johnsen and junior Kristina Le 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-4 for the title.

No. 2 doubles: Lincoln Southwest’s team of seniors Ella Ford and Meg Hove, who came into the tournament as the No. 3 seed, won the championship over the top-seeded Omaha Marian squad of sophomore Lauren Mendlick and freshman Ava Schroeder.

Class A top-5 team scoring: 1. Lincoln Pius X 44; 2. Lincoln Southeast 41.5; 3. Lincoln Southwest 37.75; 4. Omaha Marian 37.125; 5. Lincoln East 32.5.

Class B
No. 1 singles: Top-seeded Omaha Marian senior Meena Satpathy cruised to the state title with a 6-0 win over No. 3 Grand Island Central Catholic senior Ashlyn Kucera 6-0, 6-0.

No. 2 singles: Norris’ senior Madeline Starr was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over McCook junior  Joslyn Hammond.

No. 1 doubles: The top-seeded sophomore-freshman duo of Ina Satpathy Paulina Gilgenast of Omaha Duchesne took down the seniors from Norris, Isabel and Georgia Havel 6-2, 6-4.

No. 2 doubles: The Duchesne seniors of Abigail Brewster and Bridget Duffy, the top-seeded team, got past No. 6  Omaha Skutt — which was comprised of seniors Katlyn Nelson and Breanna Skala — via the score of 6-2, 6-2.

Class B top-5 final team scoring: 1. Omaha Duchesne 54.25; 2. Norris 43.5; 3. Grand Island Central Catholic 34.5; 4. McCook 32.375; 5. Omaha Skutt Catholic 27.
