Each week during the high school basketball season select coaches from the six Nebraska classes rate the teams in their class and our Tony Chapman complies the rankings. Here are the ratings for January 23, with records as of games played on Saturday, January 21.

10. Lincoln North Star (7-5), NR
Receiving Votes: Millard West (7-6), RV.
Comments: An uneventful week in Class A save for Lincoln North Star’s 47-37 win over then No. 7 Lincoln Northeast which gives the Gators their first ranking in the poll of the season. Four of their five losses are to ranked teams. But, to stay there they may need a 3-0 week with games against No. 9 Kearney and (RV) Millard West in a Friday, Saturday, back-to-back. Games of note: Millard North at Bellevue East (Tuesday), Bellevue West at Omaha Central (Tuesday), Lincoln East at Lincoln Southeast (Tuesday), Omaha Skutt at Lincoln Pius X (Tuesday), Kearney at Lincoln North Star (Friday), Millard West at Lincoln North Star (Saturday).

Comments: Same 10 teams as last week, but some minor reshuffling as York jumps to No. 3 with a decisive 42-20 win over Norris last Tuesday. The Dukes have won eight in a row heading into this week’s Central Conference tournament. Norris slides just one spot after a second loss of the week to Bennington. Games of note: Omaha Central at Omaha Skutt (Friday), York, Seward in Central Conference tournament (Tuesday-Saturday), Elkhorn North, Norris, Blair, Bennington, Waverly in Eastern Midlands tournament (Monday-Friday).

Comments: Last week we asked if we had settled on 11 teams or if someone — Broken Bow, Pierce, Hershey or GICC — would make a late run. Enter the Crusaders, who knocked off Northwest and unbeaten Adams Central on consecutive nights. Now 10-5, the Crusaders can add to their resume in the Centennial Conference tournament this weekend. Bridgeport rolled to the SPVA title. Games of note: Oakland-Craig at North Bend Central (Monday), Bridgeport at Hershey (Friday), Lincoln Christian, Scotus Central Catholic and Grand Island Central Catholic in the Centennial Conference tournament (Tuesday-Saturday), Adams Central in Central Conference tournament (Tuesday-Saturday).

Receiving Votes: Summerland (13-1), RV; Superior (14-2), RV.
Comments: The same 12 teams received votes this week, with the top nine teams being on every ballot. Ponca and Crofton flipped even though they were supposed to play, and it got snowed out. The only losses this week were in classes above as Bergan lost to Scotus and G-R lost to Alliance last Tuesday. Games of note: Summerland at Elkhorn Valley (Tuesday), Pierce at Crofton (Thursday), Wynot at Ponca (Thursday), Cross County at Crossroads Tournament (Monday-Friday).

9. Bruning-Davenport/Shickley (13-3), 6
10. Johnson-Brock (13-3), 10
Receiving Votes: Elmwood-Murdock (11-4), RV.
Comments: Minor re-shuffling as St. Cecilia lost to Class C-2 (RV) Superior and dropped two spots. Ravenna and Centura square off on Friday and we could get them again in the LouPlatte Conference title game next week. Still no room for unbeaten S-E-M, which is sixth in the points and MHC is seventh. Games of note: Alma in RPAC Tournament (all week), Ponca at Cedar Catholic (Tuesday), Amherst at S-E-M (Thursday), Falls City Sacred Heart at Johnson-Brock (Thursday), Centura at Ravenna (Friday), BDS at Crossroads Tournament (Monday-Friday).

8. Wilcox-Hildreth (12-3), 7
9. Parkview Christian (12-6), 8
10. Paxton (10-2), RV
Receiving Votes: Leyton (9-3), 10
Comments: Paxton re-enters for Leyton after the Warriors lost to Class C-2 Bayard for a second time. Paxton’s only to losses are to Class D-1, No. 1 MHC. Shelton remains firmly on top with Sacred Heart, St. Francis and St. Mary’s doing another flip despite no one losing this week. McCool Junction jumps after a win over Class D-1, No. 9 BDS. Big week for top-ranked Shelton. Games of note: Shelton at Overton (Tuesday), Shelton at Wilcox-Hildreth (Thursday), McCool Junction at Crossroads Tournament (Monday-Friday).
