Each week during the high school basketball season select coaches from the six Nebraska classes rate the teams in their class and our Tony Chapman complies the rankings. Here are the ratings for January 9, with records as of games played on Saturday, January 7.

Comments: Bellevue West moves to the top after their Metro conference title. Millard South bounces back from their loss to the Birds in the final with a dismantling of Class 6-A, No. 2 Olathe (KS) North at the Nebraska Girls Basketball Showcase. Lincoln Northeast drops after a 1-point loss to Lincoln Southeast. Games of note: Millard West at Bellevue West (Tuesday), Bellevue West at Millard South (Thursday), Lincoln High at Lincoln Northeast (Thursday), Bellevue West at Kearney (Saturday), Lincoln East at Millard North (Saturday), Lincoln High at Omaha Central (Saturday), Lincoln Pius at Millard South (Saturday).

Comments: Norris remains third despite a loss to Class C-1, No. 4 Wahoo with York and Sidney closing the gap slightly. Waverly drops for a 36-33 loss to Scottsbluff which jumps to 9th and is on a five-game winning streak. Games of note: Wahoo at Blair (Tuesday), Norris at Blair (Friday), Scottsbluff at Cheyenne (WY) Central (Friday), Ogallala at Sidney (Friday).

Comments: Milford hops back in after a one-week hiatus with wins over Falls City and Malcolm last week and 40-36 loss to Class C-2, No. 3 Pender in the Showcase. Wahoo jumps from 7th to 4th for their win at Class B, No. 3 Norris. Milford’s entry sends Scotus just out, but plenty of chances for the Rocks coming up. Games of note: Hastings St. Cecilia at Minden (Thursday), Scotus Central Catholic at Lincoln Christian (Thursday), Thayer Central at Milford (Saturday).

Comments: Maywood-Hayes Center is our third No. 1 of the season after their 13-0 start vaults them past Centura, which lost to Gothenburg on Saturday. The Wolves, however, have defeated just one team with a winning record (Paxton, twice). Some big tests this week for St. Cecilia and Ravenna. Alma jumps after a 72-64 win over EPPJ in the Showcase. Games of note: Alma at Amherst (Tuesday), Niobrara/Verdigre at Crofton (Tuesday), Pierce at Cedar Catholic (Friday), Pleasanton at S-E-M (Saturday).

Comments: More shuffling, this time for St. Mary’s which vaults back to No. 3 after wins over Class D-1, No. 9 EPPJ and over Class C-2 Amherst in the Showcase. Shelton with a 36-34 win over Class C-1 Grand Island CC in the Showcase. Wynot moves up a spot after taking Class C-2, No. 2 GACC to double overtime. Sacred Heart and Parkview Christian in the MUDECAS this week. Leyton enters after a 53-49 win over previously unbeaten Hay Springs. Games of note: FCSH and Parkview Christian in MUDECAS (all week), Humphrey St. Francis at Pierce (Thursday), McCool Junction at Deshler (Friday), Amherst at Pleasanton (Friday).
