Day 2 Results: Midwest D1 Basketball Showcase

Day 2 of The Midwest D1 Basketball Showcase tipped off at Staley High School in North Kansas City (Missouri) Saturday morning. Three teams, 23 prospects from Nebraska participated in the scholastic event. 

The scholastic event is certified/approved by the NCAA Enforcement and Approvals Group (ECAG), the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and run by the state’s High School Basketball Coaches Associations. Prospects from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma are participating in the event. 

Each team from Nebraska played three games Saturday. The teams finished Saturday with a combined record of 6-3. 

Here are results from Day 2

Team Nebraska 1 61, Team Missouri 1 53

Team Nebraska 1 started the day much like they did Friday with a fairly easy win. At the half Team Nebraska led 28-14 and controlled most of the game outside of a late 6-0 run from Team Missouri. Bellevue West guard Josiah Dotzler scored 11 of his game-high 20 points in the win. Jake Brack (Skutt Catholic) and Jacob Arop (Bellevue West) each scored eight. 

Team Missouri 4 54, Team Nebraska 2 52

Team Nebraska 2 got off to a slow start and trailed by seven (30-23) at the half. In the second half shots started falling and they found success from inside the arc. Antallah Sandlin’el (Lincoln North Star) had eight of his team-high 13 points in the second half while Neal Mosser (Millard North) was 4-of-6 from behind the arc and finished with 12. 

Team Missouri 7 44, Team Nebraska 3 42

Omaha Westside’s Tate Odvody scored eight of his team-high 15 in the first half. Both teams had trouble getting into an offensive rhythm in the first half. At the break Team Missouri 7 led just 18-15. Treyson Anderson (Lincoln Pius X) scored all nine of his points in the second half. Despite the low scoring affair Team Nebraska held a 37-35 lead with just over two minutes left thanks to a Caleb Benning 3-pointer. In the end Team Nebraska couldn’t get enough stops defensively to secure the victory. 

Team Nebraska 1 65, Team Iowa 2 40

Team Nebraska moved to 4-0 on the weekend with the resounding 65-40 victory. Jaden Jackson (Bellevue West) led the team with 15 points while shooting 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Josiah Dotzler finished with 12 and JJ Ferrin (Omaha Skutt) had nine points and five assists. Landon Classen (O’Neill) didn’t miss a field goal attempt and connecting on two 3-pointers Jake Brack led the team with five rebounds (three offensive) and six points. 

Team Iowa 4 60, Team Nebraska 2 55

Millard South’s Will Cooper scored the teams first eight points while connecting on his first four (2/2 3FG) field goal attempts. Cooper finished in double figures with 16. At the half Team Nebraska 2 trailed 31-26. Neal Mosser did his best to give  Team Nebraska 2 a lead in the second half scoring nine of his team-high 17 in the second stanza. Trailing by two with 24 seconds left Team Nebraska 2 had a chance to take the lead or tie after a Rylan Smith (Lincoln Southwest) steal but his 3-point attempt wouldn’t fall. 

Team Nebraska 3 57, Team Oklahoma 3 48

Shots were falling for Team Nebraska 3 in this one. Porter Bazil (Lincoln Northeast) had 11 of his team-high 19 in the first half including starting the game 3-for-3 from behind the arc to start the game. Treyson Anderson was just shy of a double-double finishing with 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. 

Team Nebraska 1 69, Team Missouri 3 57

Team Nebraska 1 capped off a perfect 5-0 weekend with the win. Jaden Jackson continued his hot shooting from distance going 6-of-8 and finishing with a game-high 20 points. Eldon Turner (Bellevue West) had nine of his 14 points in the first half and Jacob Arop scored eight of his 12 in the second half. 

Team Missouri 9 48, Team Nebraska 3 48

Tate Odvody once again led the team scoring with 14 points including two 3-pointers. Christian Winn was second on the team with nine and Porter Bazil seven. Team Nebraska 3 finished the weekend with a 2-3 record. 

Team Nebraska 2 68, Team Missouri 6 65

Rylan Smith connected on three 3-pointers in the first seven minutes of the game and finished with 14 points. Neal Mosser led Team Nebraska 2 with 13 of his 15 points coming in the second half. Antallah Sandlin’el, Will Cooper and Skylen Williams each scored 10. Team Nebraska 2 finished the weekend with a 1-4 record.
