HASTINGS – Both Arlington and Wayne rode standout performances from their pitchers on Thursday to advance to the winners’ bracket final in the Class C state softball tournament.
Top-seeded and undefeated Wayne got past Bishop Neumann 2-1 in the semifinals as Victoria Kniesche struck out 12 while allowing just four hits and one walk over seven innings for the Blue Devils.
In the other semifinal, second-seeded Arlington pitcher Sarah Theiler struck out nine over seven innings while limiting Centennial to four hits and no walks as the Eagles came away with a 1-0 victory.
Both Bishop Neumann and Centennial bounced back to win their losers’ bracket contest later in the evening and both remain alive in the chase for the Class C championship.
