HASTINGS – After facing each other four times previously this season – including three times in district play – Elkhorn and Skutt Catholic will tangle again on Friday in the winners’ bracket final at the Class B state tournament in Hastings.

Elkhorn, the top seed in the tournament, got a grand slam at the plate from Sydney Nuismer, who also struck out nine of the batters she faced as the Antlers downed Hastings 11-0 in four innings in a semifinal game Thursday.

Meanwhile, Skutt Catholic freshman Ruby Meylan went 4-for-4 with two homers as the Skyhawks defeated Beatrice 8-5 in the other semifinal.

Beatrice bounced back to beat Crete 12-2 in a losers’ bracket game and Omaha Gross rallied for a 12-11 win over Hastings in eight innings in the losers’ bracket to keep both the Orangewomen and Cougars in the Class B title hunt.
