Class B District Final Projections

0

Eight sub-district finals will be held tonight with watchful eyes from Omaha to Alliance on outcomes to determine Saturday’s district final field of 16 in Class B. Saturday’s eight winners will advance to state. We will update this post when scores come in with our projected field later tonight.

What We Know: It appears that 14 of the 16 teams are locked into the field already. Blair (with an upset of Bennington) and Seward (with an upset of Aurora) could upset the apple cart for Nebraska City or Elkhorn North. Should all the high seeds win, they would be the final two wild cards.

Four For Sure: Four of the district finals will pair teams that will advance no matter the outcome but are playing for seeding, these games include:

  • Waverly at Platteview
  • Omaha Roncalli at Omaha Skutt
  • Mount Michael at Elkhorn
  • Sidney at Alliance

Watching: Beatrice and Scottsbluff are on the sideline tonight after losing to Nebraska City and Sidney on Monday. The Orange, however, still appear to have a home game locked up and could slot anywhere from the 6th – 8th seed. Scottsbluff will be on the road.

Up Top: Alliance and Norris will be the top-two seeds for Saturday, with Alliance holding a slight edge in the point standings. The Bulldogs control their fate. Norris would need an Alliance loss to Sidney to gain the No. 1 seed.

Tigers and Pioneers Fate: Hastings, it appears, is not quite in a must-win scenario at Grand Island Northwest, but they’d be watching the Louisville, Conestoga C1-3 semifinal. A Conestoga win would give Nebraska City the advantage, while a Louisville win could keep the Tigers ahead of the Pioneers. Both teams would do well to, “Just Win Baby.”

The Pairings:

16. Blair (10-11) at 1. Alliance (19-4)
9. Scottsbluff (13-9) at 8. Waverly (14-6)

12. Omaha Roncalli (12-11) at 5. Platteview (19-4)
13. Sidney (12-11) at 4. Elkhorn Mt. Michael (19-3)

14. Bennington (11-10) at 3. Omaha Skutt Catholic (17-4)
11. Aurora (16-9) at 6. Beatrice (15-6)

10. Northwest (15-6) at 7. Elkhorn (16-7)
15. Elkhorn North (8-13) at 2. Norris (17-2)
