HASTINGS – Millard South and Papillion-LaVista have combined to win seven of the last eight Class A girls softball state championships and the two teams have positioned themselves to continue that trend this fall.
Top-seeded and undefeated Papillion-LaVista, the defending Class A champions, cruised to a 9-0 win over Millard West in five innings in the championship semifinals today. Meanwhile, Millard South, which won five state titles in six years between 2011-2016, won a 13-10 slugfest over Gretna in the other semifinal.
That sets-up a winner’s bracket final tomorrow morning in Hastings between the Monarchs and Patriots. It’s a game that will go a long way in determining the 2018 champion.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Southwest and Millard West will meet in the losers’ bracket semifinals tomorrow morning after each team fought its way through to keep their state title hopes alive.
