Class A State Baseball: Millard South Advances To Championship

After entering the bottom of the seventh inning with a 5-4 deficit, the Millard South Patriots rallied to pick up a 6-5 win Wednesday at Haymarket Park in Lincoln.

The victory advances Millard South to the Class A state championship on Thursday at 4 p.m. against Millard West. Because Millard West hasn’t lost in the tournament, Millard South will need to win twice to get the championship.

Bellevue West managed to gain a 5-2 lead in the fifth, but Millard South was able to tack on two runs in the sixth to cut their deficit to only 5-4.

In the seventh, the Patriots had runners on third and second base following a bloop single and a walk. Blake Stenger stepped to the plate and laid down a bunt that was hit sharply back to Thunderbirds’ relief pitcher Daniel Lester.

Lester quickly grabbed the ball to try to get the force at third, but he overthrew his third baseman, which allowed two runs to score to end the game.

Bellevue West outhit Millard South 11-5 in the game. Millard South’s Nate Moquin threw all seven innings and struck out six batters with two walks and five earned runs.

Gage Allen pitched well for Bellevue West. He went five innings with two strikeouts, five walks and four earned runs. Allen also went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI.
