#GameDay: Live Blog of Class D-2, D-1 and A State Football Championships

Welcome to our live blog page for championship Monday of the NSAA State Football Playoffs where we will be providing live updates throughout the day on the Class D-2, D-1 and A championship games.


9:41 p.m. – This one is shaping up to be a classic! Omaha Burke marches right back down the field and takes the 24-20 lead after a 7-yard touchdown run by James Burks with 3:04 left to determine the Class A champion.


9:34 p.m. – Grand Island with the big-time answer, driving 69 yards in seven plays and scoring on a 1-yard rush by John Reilly. The extra point was blocked, but the Islanders are back ahead 20-17 on Omaha Burke with 6:49 left in the contest.


9:21 p.m. – Omaha Burke strikes again as Tyler Chadwick connects on a scoring strike for the second time to Xavier Watts – this time from 34-yards out. Bulldogs convert the two-point conversion on a pass from Chadwick to Watts. Burke leads Grand Island 17-14 with 1:35 left in the third quarter.


9:10 p.m. – Omaha Burke’s explosive offense finally clicked for a 62-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Chadwick to Xavier Watts. The extra point was blocked and Grand Island holds a 14-9 lead in the Class A final with 4:56 left in the third quarter.



8:08 p.m. – It’s fast and furious right now as Omaha Burke got a 23-yard field goal from Colin Campin, but Grand Island stormed right back and scored on an 18-yard run by John Reilly just 48 seconds later as the Islanders now lead 14-3 with 4:56 left in the second quarter.


7:39 p.m. – Grand Island strikes first on 12-play, 93-yard drive that is capped by 33-yard touchdown pass from Cole Evans to Caleb Frand to put the Islander ahead of Omaha Burke 7-0 with 2:30 left in the first quarter.



5:38 p.m. – It was a wild finish the Class D-1 state final as Burwell had one last gasp to score a winning touchdown on the last play of the game, but Creighton holds on for 32-20 victory.

5:24 p.m. – Travis Tyler of Creighton recovered a fumble at the Creighton 23 yard-line to end Burwell’s march toward a lead-changing drive. Bulldogs still cling to 32-30 lead with 1:41 left in the game. Burwell still has all its timeouts.


5:18 p.m. – Bryce Zimmerer with the 1-yard touchdown run that puts Creighton back ahead 32-30 Burwell with 4:04 left to play in this Class D-1 state championship.


4:59 p.m. – Jase Williams with his third rushing touchdown of the game – along with a two-point conversion – gives Burwell a 30-26 lead with 10:59 left in the fourth quarter.


4:56 p.m. – At the end of the third quarter, Burwell is driving but still trails Creighton 26-22.


4:44 p.m. – Jase Williams with the 4-yard touchdown run and also tacks on the two-point conversion for Burwell to pull the Longhorns to within 26-22 of Creighton with 6:02 left in third quarter.



4:24 p.m. – This game has been and will be determined on the ground. Here are some first-half stats Brayden Zimmerer with 161 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries before leaving with an injury for Creighton. Bryce Zimmerer with 122 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries for the Bulldogs. For Burwell, Jase Williams with 91 yards and a touchdown on 15 attempts.


4:08 p.m. – Bryce Zimmerer plunges in from a yard out with just :01 second remaining in the first half. Conversion run fails and Creighton will head into halftime with a 20-14 lead over Burwell in the Class D-1 state championship.


 


3:50 p.m. – After Brayden Zimmerer is carted off the field, his cousin – Bryce Zimmerer – replaces him at quarterback.


3:42 p.m. – Creighton quarterback Brayden Zimmerer appears to have been knocked unconscious as he was tackled and thrown to the turf by a Burwell defender. He has remained motionless on the field for the past few minutes and the stretcher has been brought out for him.


3:37 p.m. – Coy Gideon forced and recovered a Creighton fumble in the end zone for a touchback, thwarting Bulldogs’ potential lead-taking drive.


3:28 p.m. – Coy Gideon of Burwell scores on a 34-yard run on first play of the second quarter and Jase Williams adds two-point conversion as Burwell ties the score with Creighton at 14-14.


3:25 p.m. – At the end of the first quarter, Creighton leads Burwell 14-6. Brayden Zimmerer of Creighton with 117 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. Jase Williams with 77 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown for Burwell.


3:17 p.m. – Creighton responds right back with a Brayden Zimmerer 18-yard touchdown run to go up 14-6 with 2:24 left in first quarter.


3:13 p.m. – Burwell is on the board after a 3-yard touchdown run by Jase Williams. Conversion attempt fails as Creighton holds 8-6 lead.


2:53 p.m. – Creighton gets on the board first in the Class D-1 state championship on a Brayden Zimmerer 13-yard touchdown run. Zimmerer also adds 2-point conversion run to put Bulldogs up 8-0.


2:48 p.m. – Creighton forces a Burwell 3-and-out to start the contest. Creighton will take over after a punt at its own 31.


2:33 p.m. – We’ve had the coin-flip between Burwell and Creighton for the Class D-1 state championship. We’re about 12 minutes from kickoff.


 


1:43 p.m. – Some final stats from Class D-2 state championship. Johnson-Brock’s Cole Fossenbarger finishes having completed 19-of-27 passes for 329 yards with two interceptions and four touchdowns.

Ty Hahn caught seven passes for 116 yards and a touchdown for Johnson-Brock and also ran 12 times for 120 yards and two more touchdowns.

Lane Edis of Mullen rushes for 263 yards and four touchdowns on 37 carries.

12:53 p.m. – Johnson-Brock secures the Class D-2 state championship, taking 56-26 win over Mullen.



12:45 p.m. – Ty Hahn of Johnson-Brock scores on a 20-yard interception return and the Eagles’ lead swells to 56-26 with 1:57 left in the game. Eagles moments away from the Class D-2 state title.


12:41 p.m. – Johnson-Brock starting to salt this one away after turning back Mullen’s latest drive. Eagles have ball on own 24 with 2:24 left in the game and leads 50-26.


12:30 p.m. – Johnson-Brock starting to pull away late in Class D-2 championship game over Mullen. Ty Hahn with the 19-yard touchdown run as Eagles take 50-26 lead with 6:28 left in the game.


12:16 p.m. – Kaden Glyn’s 9-yard touchdown run pushes Johnson-Brock lead back to 42-26.


12:10 p.m. – Barret Pickering getting a lot of love up in the press box right now. Conditions on the field right now much better than when he kicked three field goals on Saturday.

 


12:06 p.m. – Mullen answers with a Lane Edis 48-yard touchdown run to pull within 36-26 with 4:10 left in the third quarter.


12:02 p.m. – Johnson-Brock has come out on fire in the second half by scoring the first 14 points of the third quarter to take a 36-20 lead. Cole Fossenbarger with the 9-yard touchdown pass to Ty Hahn with 5:29 left in third quarter for the latest score. Fossenbarger with 241 yards passing and four touchdowns so far.


11:28 a.m. – It’s halftime of the Class D-2 state championship game and Johnson-Brock holds a 22-20 lead over Mullen.
