Class C-1 Quarterfinals: Neumann Upsets Pierce on Last-Second Field Goal

David Nilly hit a 29-yard field with :10 remaining in the game to give Bishop Neumann a 23-21 victory over previously undefeated Pierce on Friday night.

A touchdown run by Brett Tinker had put Pierce, the second-seed in the Class C-1 field, up 21-20 midway through the fourth quarter.

Neumann responded by taking the ensuing kickoff and driving down to the Pierce 12 before calling its final timeout with :10 seconds left. Pierce called two timeouts to try and freeze Lilly. The second timeout was right before the snap, which turned out to be a blessing for Neumann as Lilly went ahead and kicked it and missed.

On his second attempt he drilled it through the uprights.

Neumann, the 10th seed in the playoffs, will face Ord in the semifinals after the Chants defeated Ashland-Greenwood 42-7.

The other semifinal will feature Aurora against Wahoo. Aurora scored a 54-20 victory over Gothenburg tonight while Wahoo rolled past Adams Central 45-7.
