Class A Quarterfinals: Grand Island Stuns Millard South

Grand Island has officially crashed the Class A football playoffs.

The seventh-seeded Islanders, 9-2, mounted a huge fourth-quarter rally to stun second-seeded Millard South 27-24 at Buell Stadium Friday night.

A touchdown run by Millard South’s Isaiah Harris put the Patriots up 24-14 early in the fourth quarter, but the Islanders answered with a pair of scoring drives to rally for the victory. Caleb Francl’s touchdown with just under two minutes left in the game put Grand Island up for good at 27-24.

Meanwhile, top-seeded Omaha Burke was able to control Lincoln Southeast in its quarterfinal as the Bulldogs won 35-13.

Both James Burks and Jaylon Russell had over 100 yards rushing for the Bulldogs while Tyler Chadwick completed 9-of-12 passes for 187 yards. Xavier Watts caught four passes for 103 yards – including a 70-yard touchdown pass that put Burke up 14-0 in the first quarter.

Jaden Davis led Lincoln Southeast with 90 yards rushing.
