It shouldn’t be much of a shocker that Wichita State recruit Bailey Urban has put herself in the Millard South softball record books.
In the Class A-5 district softball tournament, Urban belted her 18th home run of her senior season, which not only tied for her the Class A lead this season but also tied her with current Husker Rylie Unzicker for the most in a single season in Millard South history.
Urban’s homer also helped the Patriots to a 10-0 victory over Bellevue West to win the A-5 district title – the ninth-straight district championship for Millard South. The 23-6 Patriots will enter this week’s state tournament as the #3 seed in Class A and will face Omaha Marian in the first round on Wednesday. Millard South has won the Class A state title in five of the past seven seasons.
Urabn has been a major part of Millard South’s success the past four years, but has experienced a power surge in her senior season. She entered this year with 12 career dingers, with eight coming as a junior. She equalled that mark just 11 games into the season this fall.
The centerfielder for the Patriots has put up eye-popping numbers this fall. Besides her 18 home runs, Urban is hitting .494 with an OPS of 1.899. In 93 plate appearances she has struck out just five times while drawing 13 walks. She’s also driven in 46 runs while scoring 45 runs herself.
